This past summer we visited Downtown Detroit, and although we were not very excited to land in the major metropolis that the American Auto Industry built last century, we landed anyway (in other words #worktrip). To our major surprise we discovered a brave new city bursting with energy and life! New infrastructure, new commerce and new people. We found a swarm of 30somethings working in every part of the Downtown spreading their design, fashion and culinary talents all over these historic streets and it is wonderful!
Just a short amount of time ago this city was a shell of what it once had been. But now, those shells that were originally built by Henry Ford and his friends are now being repurposed, reinvigorated and revitalized in such a fantastic way! Driving around, you can see all these historic buildings done in over the top architecture (for its time) being filled with life again!
Don’t forget to check out another primary factor in this city’s historical flavor… MOTOWN! The home of this legendary record label is not far from the downtown area, in fact its just a short Uber ride away. We loved visiting the studio where amazing legends recorded soulful songs that we all know and love! It gave us the chills just walking up knowing the caliber of super talent that recorded there for decades (Hello #StevieWonder #DianaRoss #TheTemptations).
